It was a Good Day to Battle

Post by Wailwulf on Wed Mar 13, 2013 2:35 am

Just had another battle where everything went right, where I exceeded my own expectations. So here are my top three since playing this cursed game. Smile

March 4th, 2013 -Malinovka

Victory -No Kills

T1 Cunningham in a Tier I and Tier II mixed battle. Started from the South, moved up along the bushes between the center pond and open field. Took pot shots at those that crossed the field and thise trying to flank below the hill on the otherside of the pond. A battle of atirition. We come down to four of us versus 5 of them. One of my team, on the farside of the open field starts to push forward and meets a contact who is hiding behind the buildings. Since i am the next farthest forward, an coming from the flank, I push forward, feeling like it is a good time to die.

Enemy is a Tier II Tank Destroyer. From the otherside of the buildins I fire into his side. "Bounced Off!" "Didn't Penetrate!" rings in my ears. Suddenly I start taking hits from the other side of the building.

I take off and drive at my attacker, another TD. Fire my gun. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang. Shells miss or deflect off. The TD charges me. I fire at him as I change direction towards the original and start doing figure eights around the two TD's. a third TD joins in and now I am circling around all three, firing at point blank range and avoiding them from getting a direct hiot on me. The narrow misses were narrow, striking either where I had just been or where Iwas just about to be.

Just as a fourth enemy appears to fire at me, a TD explodes, then the next, then the next. Just as the last TD explodes, the fifth enemy apears and the last two go down quickly as my comrades concentrate their firepower on them.

I had 77 direct hits, for a total of 76 points of damage. the friendly damage (12 points) had to have happened while driving like a mad man amongst the enemy.

March 7th, 2013 -Lakeville

Defeat -3 Kills

M37 SPG in a mixed tier battle. Was killed in this one, but I got three kills with just three shots! First one, I aimed at a moving enemy and he just dissapeared as I pressed the fire button. Half second later and had a kill message Smile Next two were not moving, but so satisfying to line up on a 100% target, fire and not just hit, but kill.

March 12th, 2013 -Abbey

Draw -5 Kills

M37 SPG again. wearing our new badge into battle. This one I started to churn out expierence while talking to a friend on the phone. So did indirect fire at known targets and where I last saw them and thought they might be. Killed two without a visual on them at the time. Still on the phone, suddenly realized there are four of the enemy and three of us. Enemt tank appears, I fire at him. He goes down (I don't think it was my kill) as he takes one of us out. Next enemy appears, up on a mountain trail. He takes out my last comrade but I do not have a clear shot. I see he is going to slide down the cliff, line my shot up at the projected end point and as he starts to go down, i lose visual. I fire and am reward with a Kill Smile Suddenly another enemy appears heading for me and our base. I get out of indrect fire mode, drive forward and fire and backpedal quickly. My shell explodes next to him and he hits the rise just in front of me. I charge him as he charges me, we both fire and miss. He is also a M37 SPG. He starts to occupy the base. I turn around and head towards hi,. We both fire. He hits and takes me down to 37% where I hit right next to him. We ram each other, down to 16% health. Cannons are pointing at each other, both afraid to flinch. I start rapidly pressing the fire button, cursing my loader to hurry up. Suddenly BOOM! and he is destroyed. I salute. A dead comrade lets out a victourious cheer in chat. And time runs out and we have a draw.

Looks like fun! I'm going to have to start some new tank lines, the SPGs look interesting. Just have to level up to my Churchill tank destroyer first.....

The SPG is a bit boring most of the time and usually you are dead meat when they have Line Of Sight on you. But 1 or 2 good SPGs with a good defensive escort or two and a good scout can be quite devastating.

One of my biggest peeves about the SPG is the ability of indirect fire seems a bit linear, and therefore too easily blocked by structures inbetween.

Had another good run with the M37 SPG. I either have great runs or lousy runs with this tank. I don't find it fantastically fun most of the time as alot depends on Map, location, and the abilitie of your teammates to protect you, which in most cases doesn't happen.

My highest Kills is now 6 tanks.

March 14, 2013 -Sand River

Victory -6 Kills

One of the things I do when in an SPG at the start of battle is see if I in range to be able to hit the enemy base. If I am, I lob a few shells until the scouts find other targets of opportunity. I usually take at the structure near their flag and demolish it as a way to say "Hi." In this case, I had been on this map once where I watched the ending of the battle and knew some of the Higher tier tankers like to CAP their base.

So I looked and saw the bushes near an outcrop of rocks and thought that would be a likely place to hide. So aim at the bush and fired. Was rewarded with "Vehicle destroyed!" Smile

There were two serious threats to the North of me, but my teamates took care of them, so i just sat on top of a hill and fired at targets spotted or where i thought they should be. Lost sight of one, but assumed he was going to a specific location and fire on it and caught him.

Where I aimed for my first shot of the battle. Had no idea anyone was actually there. Just seemed like a logical place to hide, so fired on it.

One piece of advice I can give about the SPG is when you play a map, any map, take stock of where your teamates seem to always hide. There are certain spots that you will always see at least one, sometimes more trying to hide in. You can get kills firing blind, you can damage foes so they are easier for your teammates to kill, you can scare your foes from hiding there, and therefore they are out in the open, and there were a few times I scared them out of hiding and my team just tore them apart for revealing themselves.

Yeah, even in my heavies, if I spot an enemy, I will shoot at them, and it reveals them to my team mates.....

I just had a great run (for me).
I dunno how to do the screencap thing so I'll just describe it.
Was playing on Port in my M8A1 TD (my god I love this tank) and I went down the middle bridge with a few teammates. Teammates damaged 3 tanks both on the bridge and a couple were nearby and I finished them all off with 1 shot each (76mm is a beast!). We were winning, so I got aggressive and went down the bridge and 1 shotted an Alecto, a Hetzer, and an M5 Stuart that tried to run (Got the Reaper Medal!). Was heading for base when I saw the dreaded red line appear on the top of the screen..... Enemy was capping our base. I was on the other side of the map and there was only an artillery SPG left at base.... Needless to say, we lost.
I got Top Gun and a couple of other medals as well.
Best match of my WoT career and I freaking lost. I dropped so many F-bombs, it's not even funny....

Yeah, I've had some really good matches... multiple kills ect, only to find out no one is capping our base and it gets captured. Always hard to know if one should push towards the enemy base, or stay behind and cap. I think if an SPG stays behind, at least one heavy should stay behind as well. Got my first match win in my Tog by staying behind, and knocking out approaching enemies one by one as they came to our base.

April 7th, 2013 -Himmelsdorf

Victory -0 Kills

I am currently away from Home, was up in Seattle Washington and am now in Portland Oregon. Will be home sometime tomorrow.

Borrowed my aunt's computer and installed WoT, decided to play on my secondary account (dieBestie) which I have used for hosting training maps so I can just scout around and get the lay of the land.

So, working on the Leichttraktor and had added a new gun. Forgot to get ammo for it, so in game with no ability to fire at anything. Discover this when trying to shoot an enemy in my sites.

So, no ammo, what does one do? I put myself way in front and made myself a target to the enemy. As they shot at me, my side shot them to ribbons, which opened up the way for me to get to the enemy base, which was not protected (well at least somewhat) and I ended up garnering 82 of the 100 Base capture points possible, leading the team to victory!

1 Move to position 1 and take aim at enemy at A & B. NO AMMO! Fairly useless where I am at.

2 So make an end run to location 3 and get shot at, but not hit by enemy tanks at c. While running across field with minor course changes be a harder tank to hit, my side at 1 destroys enemy tank(s) at A

3 Start scooting back and forth, exposing my tank to enemy at B, which take shots at me. They miss as I either back out of the way or they hit debris and wall I am partially behind. My side from 1 move up and take out enemy tanks that are concentrating on me. My being at 3 kept the enemy tanks at B from trying to push forward. As last enemy is taken out, one of my side rolls up along side me.

4 With immediate area clear, I take lead and travel the blue path, encountering no enemy. I am expecting to come against the enemy and be killed, but at least in doing so, will alert my side where they are.

5 As I tuck into next to church and start countdown to take enemy base, I get hit from an enemy tank at D I immediately move and his second shot misses. I circle around church to 6

6 Enemy tank at D does not come after me. He either is taken out by my side or goes to defend C

7 Another tank from my side rolls in to help capture base. Base captured, we win!

In this battle which I survived and never fired a shot nor damaged an enemy, I earned:

2,753 Coins
173 Experience

Awarded:

Leclerc's Meal IV Class
Kay's medal IV Class
Invader Medal

Dealing with Photobucket is causing some problem in posting higher quality images for me. Figured a way in breaking the image into multiple parts, but Photobuckets new system is more overly clunky then before. Sad

So will be posting some older reports I have been meaning to tell.

March 26th, 2013 -Karelia
Victory -1Kill
Two Minutes and Thirty Seconds!

On this battle field, I almost always head for the B3, B4, C3, & C4 area for a fairly intense clash with the enemy. Some times it a slugfest, other times a scoot and shoot affair. On this occasion it was niether.

What transpired was 6 of us, in fast tanks swung through the area in a mad dash and met absolutely no opposition. We swung onto thier base where a single tank was defending. We all opened up at almost the same time and in two firings I had been rewarded the kill.

Another tank rumbled in to defend the base appearing in the C7 area, but by then it was too late and the base was captured.

The rest of the enemy had either gone down the center road or tried to swing around the Southern hills. where their fist of iron did destroy six of our side for no losses, but they had been out manuvered.

Had some good runs the past few days.

April 20, 2013 -Abbey
Victory -2 Kills

This was Spencerk, Phule, and myself running as a platoon all in Churchills. We were a unified group, we destroyed a third of the opposition, tangled with even more of them, and captured the base. The Fighting 24th showed players that we can be formidable!

April 22, 2013 -Province

Victory -1 Kill

This was me in my M2 Light Tank. I rushed to position #1. Enemy M2 Light Tank, ZXrage, came up the switchback (red arrows). Before I could get my guns to bear, a T18 tank destroyer came charging around the curve (blue arrows). Suddenly, both were gone and I realized that they each had gone over the cliff side, not sure if on purpose or by accident.

I said "What the 'ell" and drove onto the road from my position and went down the cliff while being shot at. I fired all my rounds at ZXrage as I slid down the cliff and did on appreciative damage. I slid into ZXrage at #2. ZXrage took off towards #3, chasing the T18 that was heading there all so. I accelerated, our treads rubbing against each other, my turret pointed at ZXrage while he had his turret pointed at the stern of the T18. Once loaded, I opened up with it all and killed ZXrage (Red Skull & Crossbones) and continued to #3.

There I hid behind the building, peeking out and spotted and fired upon the enemy. From there I damaged four other tanks and spotted three others for my team to take out. Was quite thrilling!

April 22, 2013 -Siegfried Line
Victory -4 Kills

Had just recently gotten the 75 mm Vickers HV gun for my Churchill I and decided to try it out. Ended up being Top Dog on my side.

Wished every one Good Luck and to Have Fun then sent my team a message to "Protect the Artys" as we had two of them in this encounter battle.

#1 I went up the middle, planning on entering the city at it's castle gates. As I traveled across the open field alone, saw a enemy tank (A) near a bunker and fired at it. I missed bt startled him to behind the bunker where two of my side coming in. He did not last long.

#2 As those two dealt with the one behind the bunker, I then saw an enemy AMX 40 (B) in the open field battling one of mine. I auto targeted and fired while traveling and gave him the killing shot.

#3 Just as I crossed the Siegfried Line, I saw a Hetzer (C) on top of a hill in a moving duel with one of my side. I auto targeted and killed him. and then headed for the city gates. An enemy Churchill was waiting for me (D). The angle was bad, with me on an upward slope and could not target him. His shots kept glancing off the top of my tank. Suddenly artillery fire started to rain down and the enemy Churchill backed off.

I charged across the intersection to the protection of the buildings, each of us firing at the other, both hitting the other. I was planning on turning around to fight him but saw a KV-1 down the street with his gun aimed at me. I fired at him as he fired at me. I had help from a Medium tank that the KV-1 mostly was ignoring. During the exchange, I was waiting for the enemy Churchill to blast me from behind, but he never did. After a bruising battle, I kill the KV-1.

#5 I turn around and just start to go to where the enemy Churchill was, to see him come around the corner. We exchange shots, artillery starts to drop shells around him and I get the kill.

I then travel towards the base and suddenly see the last enemy piece, a M37, and target him and just as I press the trigger, he explodes as another takes him out.

I am awarded the Steel Wall.

Re: It was a Good Day to Battle

Post by Wailwulf on Wed Apr 24, 2013 2:35 pm

Posting some older ones that I hadn't been able to get posted earlier.

April 17, 2013 -Himmelsdorf
Defeat -6 Kills

This is not about me having a great kill record in a battle lost. After all, I list 6 Kills and the record plainly shows that I only had 5 kills awarded to me. The reason being is Phule was with me and each Kill would not have been possible if it had not been for him backing me up and visa-versa.

It was an encounter battle in Himmelsdorf. We went towards the base, running across enemy opposition along the way. Phule and I targeted the same vehicles and kept up a withering fire until they were destroyed, then moved on to the next. When we made it to the base, we were the last two on our side with four of the enemy still around. We cleared the base of the two enemy guarding it and started to capture it when the last two finally arrived to contest us, coming in from two sides. Here is where, my Matilda severely damaged was finally destroyed. Phule was able to take out the M7 and give the AT 2 severe damage before being taken out himself.

It was a valiant fight and a valiant defeat, which would never had been possible if it hadn't been for the teamwork Phule and I did together.

Phule, I Salute you!

April 15th, 2013 -Ruinberg
Victory -5 Kills

This is a testament to the toughness of the Matilda, especially it's frontal armor. The Matilda is one of the few tanks I will slug it out holding my ground. The Matilda is a great platform to be moving and firing on a target at range, but it can flick shells off fairly easily that you can just stand there and concentrate on firing at the enemy.

April 14th, 2013 -Province
Defeat -3 Kills

This was an act of 'daring do.'

Once I figure what i am going to do on a map, I press my movement keys so when the match starts, I take off immediately. No waits or pauses. I decided to try the far hill where the enemy always goes to hide and snipe from. Thankfully the enemy started slowly for only one shell was fired in my direction as I made the climb up the hill.

I beat the enemy there and spotted a Platoon approaching my position. I placed myself behind the building A. The Cruiser III hid himself behind the other side along with his Platoon buddy. The Cruiser moved forward, and since he was so much larger then my little T1 Cunningham, his tracks came into full view before his gun and turret. I fired and tracked him. I kept firing and blew him up.

During this time, his partner had gotten behind the Cruiser III and I then noticed that it was a T 18 tank destroyer. I could tell he was still undecided what to do, but was tentatively think of continuing of going forward. I turned around and came around the other side of the house and re-ended him B. Not so hard as to damage him, for that would damage myself, but to keep the T 18 from turning around,

This entire time I was expecting another enemy to come moseying down the road from their start point and blast me from behind.

With this fear, I accelerated into the T 18 to keep him from turning and opened up, striking him 18 times until he was destroyed!

I went down the road with no opposition, C finally seeing a large concentration of enemy at the house on the hillside. I opened with my full load of ammo and then scooted up the hill as I, 1: reloaded, and 2: the enemy started to turn around to give me chase.

At D I fired on those that remained at the house, destroying a Pz35t. When it came to reload once again, I moved so as to not be caught flat footed and traveled to the enemy's start point E. I saw a tank there and fired before realizing it was a player that was AFK. Suddenly a PzII appeared and I did not have a good angle on him, but he had a good angle on me, hitting me hard.

I moved to the AFK tanking, placing it between me and the PzII. This stopped the PzII from firing at me for he did not want to fire on one of his own. I thought I saw an opening and moved forward to fire. The PzII was quicker on the trigger and I blew up.

With a combination of luck, some skill, and constantly moving, I gave Hell to the enemy and was the last man standing on my side. It was epic fun.

April 8, 2013 -Malinovka
Defeat -5 Kills

Started on the right side of the map. Did my usual, end run to the Mill, church and through the woods. Rarely stopped to fire but kept constantly moving and swirling around the enemy. Killed one at the mill, another at the church. The other three were doing base defense, completely unaware I had gotten behind them. Attacked and took out the other three and went to take the base. Turned out the rest of the enemy had made a push for our base and all were on it, capturing it much quicker then I or the late coming Ltracktor could.

I charged across the center bridge and just kept going.  I took a serious beating but prevailed.

It has been a long while since I posted one of these.  Not that I have haven't had great battles lately, but that they kinda get lost with all of the other great battles I have had.

This one was with my Pz1C on the Province Map.  I charged across and went up the hill (Compare to my T1 Cunningham battle of April 14th, 2013).  I used constant movement and frenzied attacking to keep the enemy off guard.  The only real time I stopped was when i got my last kill by jamming myself behind a T18 that had backed into the edge of the map.

Made Mastery and received Top Gun, Scout, Patrol, and Cool Headed awards.

Sept 2nd, 2013  -El Haluf

M5 Stuart.  I ran down the middle of the map to spot enemy up on the ridge line.  Enemy was making a push down the south of the map.  i turned towards them.  Took out an M2 Medium headed for me with no clue I was there.  Then charged the rear of the flankers, lighting them up.  Took out the M3 Stuart who thought staying still was the best thing to do.  Obliterated him on his rear with my trusty howitzer and point blank range.

Entire flanking maneuver was wiped out by my team.  I then ran along the hill edge encouraging the enemy to stick their heads out to shoot me, which they did, and killed me.  But AS I died, the entire South of the enemy was wiped out, leaving their Northern Flank to be enveloped and flounder in disbelief.

Sept 4th, 2013 -Himmelsdorf (Encounter Battle)

Another seven kill battle.  Maybe could have made it eight kills but went for capturing the base instead and bringing victory to my team.

Went down the Hill towards Tank Alley, kept moving and fired at enemy I could and just took them out.  The Matilda is a beast especially when attacking.  When you charge an enemy firing, the enemy has a tendency to think about getting cover more then fighting back.  They seem to always expect their opponents to stand and fight, not to push past them and firing.

I was Platooning with Phule and we ran across a platoon of two people that I have platooned with before, of course we were on opposing sides.  After the battle, Phule went to bed and I joined up with my friends.  This was our First Battle together:

Oct 1st, 2013 -Malinovoka

Encounter Battle  -Brother in Arms

I was in my T1 Heavy, Techie42 of the FAILS clan was in a S35 CA and Ashlee_Cororan was in her M4.

There was a player on our side by the name of Sgt Oddball and that just got the Positive Waves flowing (reference to Kelly's Heroes).

We charged up the hill and there were no no enemy coming the other way.  We charged down the hill and tore into the enemy. Towards the end of Battle Techie42 starts telling me to let Ashlee get a kill and don't die, aware that we could be awarded the Brother in Arms.  Me completely clueless in what he was talking about, Just hell bent on defeating the enemy.  Well, we succeeded despite my ignorance.

Finally have 7 kills in a tank that is not a Matilda.  Just missed getting 9 kills.

October 23rd, 2013 -Malinovoka

Encounter -M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo

I was the second highest Tier tank on my team.  Decided to not go up the Hill as that is what most do, and decided to go South like I usually do to prevent a Flanking maneuver, and hopefully flank the enemy.

A lower Tier heavy follows my lead but stops in the D2 area.

At A (refer to map below) I spot the enemy flankers (six of them in all) being lead by a Stuart.  I take a few shots and back pedal from them.  Stuart keeps coming and I take him out.  The enemy spreads out  and goes after me.  I mostly back pedal and fire.  In one case, I aim at one, fire and hit and destroy another.  Thankfully the heavy that sort of followed, and a Medium that rolls into the same area as the heavy take care of the flanker who started up the field while shooting at me.

After finishing off the attack. I push forward.  Spot another enemy at B.  His turret is scanning, but never towards me.  I fire and out he goes.

I push on and get hit by tank at C  I fire at him and get out of his range and lose sight of him.  Turn and go up road and see him again, firing the the following heavy crossing the middle of the field.  I charge and fire, hitting him, taking him down to very low HP.  Decide to ram.  Just before I hit, he blows up from a shot by the Heavy.

Their last heavy is destroyed on the Hill, leaving a TD and two artys.  I charge to where the artys are most likely at.  TD is killed by someone on my team.  Arty is spotted, D, I stop, take aim and he is gone.  Second arty is spotted, E, I take aim, fire and take him to less then 10% HP, one of the others blow him away.

Today was a good day to live. First, I had to deal with an overdue cable payment. I phoned them, and very politely told them I've put up with sub par service for over a year now, which they are aware of, and I want to reduce my service package as I don't feel I should be paying so much. Long story short, I got a free 3 month trial added to my account, saving me a huge amount of money. Then I proceeded to slow simmer the best tasting chili I've ever made. Hours and hours of simmering.... tons of pepper.... fresh onions, garlic..... just enough to belch fire, but not be too uncomfortable doing it...!

Standard Battle -Pz1c

Decided to not take the normal routes with my speedy little scout, and insted decide to try going through the gully to the stream bed.

I get to a bush at A and stop.  Spot a TD crossing the road, traveling into the field.  I just watch him as others blow him away.

After waitin a while at A, watching the battle progress, I move up to B.  From B I scoot slowly under the bridge and am rewarded with two spoting an LTP (B2) and an M37! (B1)  They do not see me, I rearm with APC rounds, take careful aim on the M37 (B1) and blow him away.  Then reload and take aim at the LTP who has started to move (and I believe is still completely unaware of me).  I hit a few and then lose sight of him.

I then sit and wait.  Just before I decide to move, the LTP appears heading for me, I take aim and up he goes.

I start moving towards the enemy base.  As I reach the forest, I spot a TD (D at E4) and see that the enemy has overcome our defenses at D1.  I charge up the hill, and head to the enemy base and spot an AFK LTP (C).  I blow him away while staying in the base.  By now the enemy has a heavy and I believe a medium in our base, but my team at D2 start heading to recapture our base.

I circle around, looking for a good spot to hide.  Hit the Large Tin shed on the enemy base, destroying half of it.  Now here is the cool part, The remaining shed has two rooms on the bottom floor, and my Pz1c is so small that I drive into one of the rooms without destroying the shed.  Here I sit for the rest of the battle, (D at enemy base).

The battle is hot and heavy at my base, Not sure my side will prevail.  Finally the enemy heavy is destroyed.  The enemy has only one tank left, the one I spotted at D at location E4.  The count down is going and just when it hits '98' the TD appears coming out of the woods.  He fires and blows away the shed, but does not damage me.  The base capture timer hits 100, but I have been in battles where it has been reset after having done so, so I fire and blow the TD up before he is able to do anything else!

Am awarded the INVADER medal for the base capture, all 100 points Smile.

Oh, Yesterday was a complete BLAST

December, Friday the 13th, 2013 -Lakeview

Team Match -Pz1c

***(If anyone has Replays of this match, send them to me)***

Spartin2392 organized the clan into Team matches.  After a while of good battles, we decided to go out in only Pz1c's and Kritto in an Arty.  I am sure everyone has to say the enemy force, most from clan Hell's Hammers [HXH], were great opponents and ended the fight in the best way possible.

I was either lucky enough, or unfortunate enough, to be the last man standing on our side.

SilentDiesel actually contacted me afterwards with these word's of Praise for the FXXIV:

FOt the match above, where we went out in Pz1c's, I sent a thank you and a link to all our opposing opponents.

I recived this reply from CaptainChainsaw, Deputy Commander of Hell's Hammers:

As the head battle caller for HXH when we first encountered you gentlemen on the field I had a strategy all planed in my head until SilentDiesel (One of our Deputy Commanders) pointed out what your lineup of tanks was, needless to say I was shocked for a split second, but then it dawned on me that you guys were just here to have a good time and share a well needed laugh, people take this game wayyy to seriously at times and I have to say it was an honor to just relax and have a good time with you guys for that match!

And I have to throw this offer out there, if you guys ever want to just have a laugh and a good time hit me up with a message in-game and I would be more than happy to head into a training room with you guys and just let loose with some more scout dodgeball.

Thank you again for the enjoyable match, I'll be getting that replay to the rest of the clan so they can enjoy it as well!

Have a great day and a Merry Christmas to yourself and the rest of your clan!
